The Company
About CleanTech Biofuels CleanTech Biofuels, Inc. holds exclusive licenses to a pair of technologies that offer significant advances in converting municipal solid waste (MSW) into ethanol. The first of these technologies involves the treatment of MSW at temperature and pressure in order to convert the cellulosic material into a homogenous cellulosic fuel feedstock, recover other valuable byproducts, and dramatically reduce the volume of waste materials that must be sent to landfills. The companion technology converts the recovered cellulosic feedstock into C5 and C6 sugars that are fermentable into ethanol.
Technology
We are currently developing our exclusive licenses to produce ethanol from municipal garbage. This technology combines (1) a Pressurized Steam Classification Process (PSC Process) to cleanse and separate garbage into a homogeneous cellulosic feedstock, and (2) a dilute acid hydrolysis process that converts the cellulosic feedstock into fermentable sugars. This combination of technologies will allow the Company to be a low-cost producer of ethanol from municipal garbage.
Because of our unique focus on using municipal garbage as feedstock for energy production, we have been, and expect to continue to be, presented with opportunities to joint venture, license or acquire other technologies that can utilize part of the material in municipal garbage for energy production. We intend to develop additional complementary technologies that can piggyback on our core system with a goal of being able to convert as much of the municipal waste stream as possible into clean fuels.
Projects
PILOT PLANT PROJECT: We have begun design and construction of a pilot plant to fully test and identify potential improvements to the Brelsford technology before we implement the technology on a large commercial scale. We have engaged Merrick & Company, a Denver-based engineering consulting firm with extensive experience in the alternative fuels production area, to build a small scale replica of a fully operating plant that will be used to evaluate the technology and gather data needed to complete the engineering, design, and construction of a commercial demonstration plant. We anticipate that this pilot plant will be completed and operational in 2008.
COMMERCIAL PLANT DEVELOPMENT PROJECT: We have begun identifying and evaluating potential sites for our first commercial plant. We anticipate beginning the construction of this plant as soon as the design and engineering detail developed from the pilot plant is complete. In order to reduce the lead-time for final site selection and beginning construction, we are designing and engineering the commercial plant simultaneously with building the pilot plant.
